I’ve known quite a few Melkiteand Maronite priests, from the Lawrence, Massachusetts area, and can say that all of them were enthusiastic supporters of Bergoglio. I never got the impression that either of those traditions was a good alternative. And, they were all as “loose as ashes” in their celebrations of Divine Liturgy, though the Byzantine, even celebrated poorly, outdoes the best Novus ordo.
