INITIAL SENTENCE
O Mary, Mother of mercy: remember the children you have in purgatory and, presenting our suffrages and your merits to your Son, intercede so that he may forgive them their debts and take them out of those darkness into the admirable light of his glory, where they enjoy your sweetest sight and that of your blessed Son.
O glorious Patriarch Saint Joseph, intercede together with your Wife before your Son for the souls of purgatory. Amen.
It is read about every day.
DAY 5
Meditation
The way in which the fire of Purgatory torments souls
Being the fire of Purgatory corporeal and material, it will perhaps happen to someone to ask how he can act on the souls deputed of all corporeal matter. In that way, the Pontiff St. Gregory replies, that Lucifer and the rebellious angels, although they are pure spirits, are tormented with the material fire of Hell; so before the universal judgment they can also be, and indeed are, the human souls without bodies condemned to Hell or Purgatory. The fire of the abysses is an instrument of the Justice of God, which can punish a spirit through a body, as its omnipotence animates a body through a spirit. The way is unknown and surprising to us, but it is no less true, concludes San Bernardino de Sena, while it would be an unforgivable presumption to want to understand with the courtesy of the sight of man, the wonderful works of divine power. The Holy Fathers and Doctors striving to give us some explanation of the way in which the fire of Purgatory torments the souls locked in that prison, they tell us that they work in them by attachment, and they want to say that those souls no longer have the body they had in life, but the fire of Purgatory joins in such a way and clings to those naked spirits, which serves them as a very tormented body. This is an idea that fills us with fright and horror, but our idea is always smaller than it really is. Oh, how inexplicable is the torment experienced by those blessed souls! Let us consider then, O Christians, that those souls do not have bodily or flesh hands like us, but sun hands of fire; they do not have feet, but feet are of fire; they do not have the other members like ours of flesh, but all are of fire. Of fire is the head that always sends off sparks; of fire the chest that always burns; of fire the entrails that always throw flames; of fire all the parts that always crunch. They see only fire, they hear but fire, they breathe but fire, they touch but fire. They are always in the fire, and they are always stirred in the fire. Oh fire!, oh fire of Purgatory! Let us burn then in supreme charity in this life, if we do not want to burn in the other in the fire of Purgatory.
Prayer
You, O Lord!, light the fire of divine charity in our breasts and make it burn in such a way that it sanctifies us all, making us all determined to help and deliver our deceased brothers from the unsufferable ardors of Purgatory. The fire that for them is extinguished, is also extinguished for us; the piety we use with them we will find it more abundant for us, and purified in the flames of your holy love in this life we will reach more happily to their sovereign source in the other, the more generous we will pour out their affections in the present in Purgatory. Amen.
🌹Eternal Father, for the most precious blood of Jesus, mercy.

Let's pray. Oh my God, of whom it is proper to have compassion and forgiveness: we beg you pleading for the souls of your servants whom you have ordered to migrate from this world, especially for the souls of our relatives, friends and benefactors (they can be named by their proper name), so that you do not leave them in purgatory, but that you order your holy angels to take them and take them to the homeland of paradise, so that, because they waited and believed in you, they do not suffer the sorrows of purgatory, but possess the eternal joys. For Christ our Lord. Amen.
V. Give them, Lord, eternal rest.
R. And shine for them perpetual light.
V. Rest in peace.
R. Amen.
