Versailles Bishop Lucien Crepy, 64, France, has authorised celebrating Mass in Saint-Germain-en-Laye (44,806 inhabitants) from March 19 in the chapel of the Franciscan sisters for a "one-year evaluation period," but not during July and August.
For almost two years, Mass has been celebrated in the open-air, in the square of the seldom-used hospital chapel, despite the cold and rain.
In December 2022, Crepy received representatives of the faithful, ostensibly to find a "solution", which should have been easy. As his proposal lacked adequate guarantees and prohibited Masses in summer, the open-air celebrations will continue.
