For starters, it isn't hygienic. ;-) Totally not teasing, either. People don't wash their hands right before receiving communion, do they? Then there's the little matter of the people handing it out not washing their hands, either. I'll leave it to Father Grunner to explain why Mrs. O' Meara and Sister Greta Pants-Suit shouldn't be handing out the Blessed Sacrament at all.

One interesting thing. "Communion in the hand" proves how the "Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion" became the "Regular Ministers of Holy Communion" in Novus Ordo Land. It's a grim warning of what will happen with "Extraordinary Married Priests but right now just for remote Amazonian villages, blah, blah, blah." Then when those aren't enough, it will be "Extraordinary Female Celebrants" (none dare call them priestesses) and Cardinal Marx-knows-what insanity follows that.
