Francis Cardinal Toribio Porco Ticona, 86, appears as “married” in the Bolivian Civil Registry (Serecí).
"This document is fake, I have not signed anything in any civil registry. I have not married anyone. Before (2018) they sent us a paper (a photocopy of the manual register), we tried to investigate who did it, but we couldn't find out," Porco who is in poor health (Parkinson's disease), told PaginaSiete.bo (June 4).
The marriage certificate, dated from 31 December 1992 at 00:00 (sic), was seen by PaginaSiete.bo. The marriage is said to have taken place in San Antonio de Condoriri (Cercado province). The document contains a book number, a heading number, and a folio number. All verified. The signature matches Porco's.
Although necessary, the identity card of neither spouse is registered and no witnesses are identified, but these were common irregularities in the old documents, especially in rural areas.
