The 35th General Congregation of the Company of Jesus ended with the celebration of the Mass at Rome's Gesu Church.
Besides reflecting on important topics, the assembly's 200 participants from all over the world elected a new superior general of the order, Spanish Fr. Adolfo Nicolas. Several Jesuits shared their experiences with H2onews.
"We also did our duty, we reflected on our identity, our mission, our obedience, our relationship with the Holy Father, and now we feel renewed."
"We were also asked about really important things, like our intellectual apostolate through, for example, universities or the Company's contribution to theology. All of these topics have been at the center of our conversations for nine weeks."
In the end, the meeting served to define and clarify the order's objectives in the future.
"The Company of Jesus is located all over the world; Our desire is to go to the most needy, the poorest, the places where poverty comes from, that is, the places where people are marginalized."
"Touch people's hearts with the message of the Gospel, with the unique image of Jesus, in whom everyone finds his true identity. We like to bring the message of the Gospel humbly but also sincerely and effectively to all people."
