Another Catholic Priest Removed Without Any Reason Given
Father McMullen is a Benedictine monk of Saint Vincent Archabbey in Latrobe, Pennsylvania. He also celebrated Mass in the Roman rite.
The parish, which has four churches, is thriving, with many young families and an increase in weddings and baptisms. The parish has no need for "extraordinary" Communion helpers or female altar servers.
In the last two and a half years, Father McMullen is the second Benedictine monk to be removed as a parish priest by the Abbot of Saint Vincent and Bishop David Zubik. Both priests were Catholic in doctrine and liturgy.
Father McMullen is in his third year of a six-year assignment. No reason was given for the sudden removal. Hundreds of parishioners are demanding answers from the diocese.
"I cried," parishioner Emilie Hovanec Kisan told CbsNews.com on 17 June: "It's unjust; it's not right. It's time for us to fight and stand up for this. It's horrible."
She has a theory about why Father McMullen was removed. "There is a small group of individuals who are upset and did not agree with his practices. They complained week after week after week."
On Tuesday night, Kisan started an online petition for the priest, and it has already been signed by 2,400 people.
