Francis Appoints Women to Vatican Positions

Pope Francis has named on November 7 two female sub-secretaries for the Vatican Dicastery for the Laity, Family and Life.

The sub-secretary for the Section for Life is the bio ethicist Gabriella Gambino, 49, a mother of five. In October 2014, she criticized the pro-divorce theses of Cardinal Walter Kasper.

The sub-secretary for the Section for the Lay Faithful is the church-lawyer Linda Ghisoni, a mother of two. She studied at the Theological Faculty of Tübingen, Germany, a leading Modernist party-school in the wake of the Council. Later it fell into insignificance.

The Dicastery is headed by Modernist Cardinal Kevin Farrell. Vatican sub-secretaries used to be monsignors.
