The five Dubia are (simplified):
1. Do married persons who live in a new union like being married, have access to the sacraments?
2. Are there still absolute moral norms that prohibit intrinsically evil acts without exceptions?
3. Are there still objective situations of grave habitual sin?
4. Is it still true that circumstances and intentions can never change an evil act to be good or defensible?
5. Is it still true that conscience cannot legitimate exceptions to absolute moral norms?
The problem of Schönborn's response: If the first question is answered with yes, then the other four questions must be answered with no.
In May 2016 Pope Francis, during a meeting with the leadership of the Latin American Episcopal Conference (CELAM), said that Schönborn is "the best guide" for understanding the controversial eighth chapter of Amoris Laetitia to which the Dubia refer.
