Comments by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of South Ossetia on the internal political crisis in Georgia

We have been closely watching the developments in Georgia in the last few days. It is obvious that the developing serious internal political crisis, into which this country is again driven by its Western handlers and so called "friends", may pose a threat to the stability and security of the whole Transcaucasus region. This is evidenced by the transformation of the protesters' slogans, which have gone far beyond the boundaries of the Georgian domestic political agenda to call for a new march against South Ossetia and Abkhazia.

What is happening in Georgia causes serious concern in the Republic of South Ossetia, especially given the demonstrated nature of the protests, the destructive political forces operating in that country and the Western players behind them, who have been fueling the Georgian opposition for many years in their own interests to destabilize the situation and undermine the security structure established in the region after 2008.

Obviously, the recent developments in Georgia and attempts to provoke a crisis in Nagorno-Karabakh, Transnistria and Belarus are links in the same chain.

At the present time, the situation on the territory of Georgia bordering the Republic of South Ossetia is described as relatively calm. However, we should like to warn the "hotheads" in Tbilisi who are once again calling for a forceful resolution of the Georgian-Ossetian and Georgian-Abkhazian problems against further escalation of tension, given the many unresolved issues and, as a consequence, the considerable potential for conflict.

We sincerely hope that the current Georgian leadership will be able to resolve the crisis provoked from abroad by political methods and will not allow a new outburst of aggression against neighbouring countries.
