'St Edmund Gennings' - (FULL FILM) English Martyr
St. Edmund Gennings, Elizabethan priest and Martyr, arrested and executed by order of Queen Elizabeth I after ministering to the persecuted Christians of England in the 1580's/1590's, full short biographical film, useful for classrooms and parishes. Saint Edmund Gennings is one of the lesser known of the Martyrs of England yet the account of his life and mission as a hunted young priest in Elizabethan England is worthy of note and interest. This film takes the biographical information that is available on Saint Edmund Gennings and presents it in a 30 minute film using a detailed and clear narrative, devotional and historical paintings, artwork, maps, footage of nature, historical houses and events and simple costumed imagery. Saint Edmund Gennings is linked to many other English Martyrs. He is particularly remembered for his execution outside the home of Saint Swithun Wells after having been captured and tortured for celebrating the outlawed Catholic Mass. In this production the historical documents and biographical accounts available on Saint Edmund Gennings have been represented into a narrative of his own words. This Martyr is particularly noted for his love of the Mass and the English people. This is a creative and simplified way to learn the life and spirituality of one of the Forty Martyrs of England and Wales with visual aids to help the narrative flow well. Edmund Genings konvertierte im Alter von 17 Jahren zum katholischen Glauben und wurde 1590 in Reims zum Priester ordiniert. Nach einigen Jahren des Wirkens in England wurde er bei der Feier einer geheimen häuslichen Messe in London ertappt, gefangen genommen und in Gray's Inn Fields zu Tode gemartert. Mit ihm starben Polydore Plasden, Eustachius White, John Mason, Sydney Hodgson und Swithun Wells.
Edmunds Tod bewog seinen jüngeren Bruder John Genings, ebenfalls Katholik zu werden; 1619 konnte er zunächst den Dritten Orden der Franziskaner in England aufbauen, 1629 wurde er Ordensprovinzial für England.
Kanonisation: Edmund Genings wurde am 25. Dezember 1929 zusammen mit weiteren 26 Märtyrern aus England und Wales von Papst Pius XI. seliggesprochen; am 25. Oktober 1970 wurde er zusammen mit weiteren 36 Märtyrern aus England und Wales von Papst Paul VI. heiliggesprochen.
