25 years of the Prelature of Opus Dei.

On the occasion of the twenty-fifth anniversary of the founding of the personal prelature of Opus Dei, a workshop was organized at the Pontifical University of the Holy Cross in Rome.
This personal prelature, so far the only one in the world, was founded by St. Jose Maria Escriva de Balaguer, canonized in 2002. The prelature now has more than 80,000 members around the world. Cardinal Camillo Ruini, the Pope's vicar for the diocese of Rome, explains the work of this institution to H2onews:
"The Prelature does a great apostolic job in the sense that they can delve into many environments that dioceses often have difficulty entering —culture, economy, professions and also art—to bring the message of Christ, and witness to Christianity."

"Since even before the Second Vatican Council , the charism of this prelature has been to insist on the universal call to holiness as a vocation at every stage and condition in life and this is a great contribution that the prelature offers to the life of the individual dioceses.

What are the fruits of Opus Dei? Cardinal Julian Herranz, President Emeritus of the Pontifical Council for Legislative Texts, says:
"The fruits always follow the new evangelization, and like other institutions, Opus Dei follows that particularly serious need to bring the Gospel, and the Risen Christ to the world in this period full of tendencies that lead to a dictatorship of relativism, to nihilism and materialism.”
Monsignor Fernando Ocáriz, Vicar General of Opus Dei, summarizes the message of the spirituality of the prelature.
"We are not only called to be saints, to be fully united with Jesus Christ, but also to see that all temporal realities—such as work, family— can and should be means to encounter God and make progress in spiritual life."

The raison d'être of Opus Dei is to serve the Church, explains its prelate, Monsignor Javier Echevarria Rodriguez:
"The main objective is to serve the Church in all and for all, St. Jose Maria Escriva said many times with great conviction, if the work is not to serve the Church- then I do not want it."
