Day of Partial Abstinence

It is an Ember Day, which means today is a Day of Fast & Partial Abstinence. A Day of Partial Abstinence means that meat (and soup or gravy made with meat) can only be eaten once. A Day of Fast means only one full meal is allowed, at which meat can be taken. Two other meatless meals, which together are less than the full meal, are also permitted.

Below is a traditional Catholic Calendar which Catholics should follow. You can print it out. It shows all the fast days, days of abstinence & feast days of saints. When printing, make sure to look at the print preview & choose "fit to page", otherwise the calendar might not print correctly. If you print it out in color, the days of Fast & Abstinence will be highlighted.

He received baptism, together with his wife Tatiana... & his sons, Agapius and Theopistus. The place of the vision is said to have been Guadagnolo, between Tibur and Praeneste (Tivoli and Palestrina), in the vicinity of Rome. Eccl., ad an. 103, 4) would identify him with Placidus mentioned by Josephus Flavius as a general under Titus.

The Acts... recall the similar story in the Clementine Recognitions. They... were used by St. John Damascene, but the veneration of the saint is very old in both the Greek and Latin Churches. He is honoured as one of the Holy Helpers, is invoked in difficult situations, and is patron of the city of Madrid and of hunters...” (1913, The Catholic Encyclopedia)
