On Pentecost Sunday, St. Patrick Church in Portland, Maine celebrated its final Mass .The Portland Diocese sold the property to a company that owns an adjacent shopping center. According to the diocese, the buyer has plans to demolish the 39-year-old church. The sale is necessary to ensure that the other two churches and school in the parish remain open. Sources say the parish is running an annual deficit of $85,000 and that membership in the church is falling.

According to a statement released by the Neocatechumenal Way, the Holy Father told the initiators: “After announcing the Gospel in the squares, prepare for a backlash from the devil against you.” The communique also stated that the Holy Father informed the initiators of the Neocatechumenal Way that he will grant them a private audience soon.

On Sunday, Cardinal Timothy Dolan, archbishop of New York, gave the 2013 commencement speech at Notre Dame University in South Bend. He announced that he found the secret to the University during a night time visit to the campus Grotto of Our Lady of Lourdes. “At this Grotto, there’s a touch of the transcendent,” Dolan said. And: “Here at Notre Dame, we want to be not just another Harvard or Oxford, but a Bethlehem, a Nazareth, a Calvary, a Cana,” the cardinal said. “Here our goal is not just a career but a call. Not just a degree but discipleship. Not just what we’ve gotten, but what we’re giving.” Gloria.tv wonders if, at the Grotto, Cardinal Dolan also found the reason for Notre Dame University conferring an honorary degree in 2009 to Barack Obama, the most pro-abortion US-President in history?

The blog, Catechesis of Caroline, criticized the US posters campaign “No Teen Pregnancy”. One poster shows teenagers next to a baby bottle with the slogan “You think being in school sucks?”. On another poster is a baby bed with the slogan “You're supposed to be changing the world… not changing diapers”. Caroline comments quote: “The inference is clear, motherhood is unsatisfactory and unfulfilling, no great achievement and only a valid choice later on in life when you may have fulfilled greater, more important goals.” The blog asks: 'What does ‘changing the world’ consist of when you are a teenager? Going out, getting hopelessly drunk and having numerous sexual relationships?
