Hidden Behind Walls - The Hidden Lives of Carmelite Nuns.

Lanherne Carmelite Convent is the oldest of its kind in England. Set in a beautiful valley between the town of St. Columb and the sea lies the Teresian Carmelite Convent. The Convent boasts 1200 years of religious history from originally being a Celtic Monastery to it'd present day Carmelite state. Inhabiting the Convent are currently 12 Nuns who shut themselves of from the world completely in order to fully devote themselves to God. Living on a simple diet with the most basic of necessities their lives are humble and reverent. The nuns are almost totally self sufficient with their own gardens to grow food and skills ranging from woodwork to book publishing. Seclusion is at the utmost importance for the Nuns, no one but the Bishop is allowed to enter the cloister and the Nuns never leave unless it is of paramount importance. Food is passed to them through an iron grill and a bell is rung if they require anything. Despite all of this the Nuns of Lanherne remain central in the heart of St. Mawgan's village community.
