Dear @john333 , with respect, people falling away or better said, the church straying away due to betrayers have been happening even before Jesus came.
Arianism happened, remember? 95% of the entire Church, when st Francis of Assisi came out, his life and works renew the church from the sin of arrogance... There's many examples before and after Jesus; Vatican II is the most civil breakaway ever, but it wasn’t the 1st time, V2 was the start and triumph of those behind the plot which fulfills 2 Tes 2:3-4 which apostasy is prophesied for our Lord's glorious return.
