Hocket, from the French "hoquet" meaning 'hiccup'. This is the rythmic phenomenon in which to voices alternate in rapid succession, each resting while the other sings. This gives the effect, somewhat, of 'skipping' or small leaps into the air. The note value of each voice as it alternates, is sometimes less than a semi-quaver at Allegro .

Introit Justus ut palma & Brassart Kyrie.
The Schola Abelis of Oxford sing the Introit Justus ut palma, from the Common of Confessors, followed by a Kyrie by Johannes Brassart (c1400-c.1455). The video shows only the repeated Introit antiphon. The Kyrie is alternated by Brassart's polyphony and the Kyrie of Mass IV, to which it is closely related.
It was the feast of St Didacus. The occasion was a Traditional Sung Mass at the parish church of St Anthony of Padua, Headley Way, Oxford, sung by the Parish Priest, Fr Aldo Tapparo.

Polyphonic style is fine for pieces where one can loose oneself in contemplation eg O Magnum Mysterium, Spem in Allium.
I do not think however that polyphony suits the Dies Ire. It is a dramatic piece of poetry that has its own rhythms, speeds and tonal effects. The polyphony just does not work with it (in my humble opinion).

Offertory Exultabo te Domine, from the 11th Sunday After Pentecost, sung at the St Catherine's Trust Summer School 2010.
We sang the appropriate Offertory verses, from the Offertoriale, with this Offertory. In this case the Offertory as printed in the Liber is sung first, followed by two long verses (which were sung by different cantors), followed by the second half of the Offertory (Domine clamavi ad te), sung by all.

We sang the appropriate Psalm verses - Ps 127, Beati omnes qui timent Dominum - in alternation with the antiphon.
Since this was the final Sunday of the School, we had some students with the regular singers, who had been preparing all week to sing some of the propers.
