Saint Anna, Pilgrimage Church in Haigerloch, Germany.

Saint Anna, Haigerloch The origin of this pilgrimage place goes back a long time. At the beginning of the 15th century, a heavily armed knight on horseback, was in mortal danger of falling down a dangerous slope into the river Eyach. Therefore he prayed to Saint Anna, and promised to have a chapel built if she rescued him. So after having been saved by divine intervention, he kept his word; thus the chapel was built.
Later, however, the chapel fell into disrepair. In the 18th century, duke Joseph of Hohenzollern-Sigmaringen promised Saint Anna that, if his wife would give birth to a male heir, he would have the chapel restored to its former glory. So when his son was born, the duke kept his promise and even carried stones himself to the chapel, so it could be completely refurbished. He also called on the best artists of his time for the interior decoration and marvelous paintings.
