Vilnius Archbishop Gintaras Grušas, 60, Lithuania, succeeds Cardinal Bagnasco as the president of the Council of Bishops’ Conferences of Europe (CCEE).
Grušas was born in Washington, D.C. to Lithuanian parents and raised in Los Angeles. He worked as a technical consultant at IBM before studying theology at the Charismatic Franciscan University of Steubenville.
In an April Exaudi.org interview, Grušas said that the faith was kept in Lithuania during Communism but lost since the country’s "independence" in 1990. Soviet Lithuania experienced a population boom, but since it submitted to the decadent West, it lost 25% (!) of its inhabitants.
Grušas will play a key role during the so called continental preparing phase of the Synod on Synods. All but one holder of the CCEE presidency have become cardinals.
