Ships in the Negev desert: Christian pilgrims 1500 years ago
The Israel Antiquities Authority discovered traces of a Byzantine church dating back one thousand five hundred years during archaeological excavations in the northern Negev. The roof, built of wood and covered with ceramics, was supported by three parallel rows of stone columns and had three apses facing east. According to Dr. Elena Kogan, an archaeological researcher at the Israel Antiquities Authority, the discovered church was a huge and quite extraordinary construction.
