Accident: Tuesday shortly after midnight, local time, 38-year-old Emanuel Bergoglio, a nephew of the Pope, was involved with his family in a terrible car accident in the locality James Craik, Argentina. Emanuel was driving a Chevrolet Spin on the highway when he rammed a Ford Cargo loaded with corn that was travelling in the same direction and had just left a gas station. In the violent impact Emanuel’s wife, 39-year-old Valeria Carmona and 8-month-old Antonio were killed. Two-year-old Joseph died later at the hospital. Emanuel, a psychiatrist with the Buenos Aires Police, is in critical condition. He is the son of the late pope's brother, Alberto Bergoglio. The 60-year-old truck driver was not injured.

Just War: Speaking to journalists aboard the August 18 flight from South Korea, Pope Francis answered a question concerning a U.S. military intervention in Iraq. Quote: “In the cases where the is an unjust aggression, I can only say that it is licit to stop the unjust aggressor. I underscore the verb “stop.” And: “We also have to have memory, as well. How many times under this excuse of stopping the unjust aggressor the powers have taken control of nations. And, they have made a true war of conquest.”

I know it won't last long: During the same event Pope Francis spoke about his private life: “I always take holidays, but at home. I sleep more. I read books that I like. I listen to music. I pray more. In July and a part of August I did this and it was good for me.” Later he added: “I try to think of my sins and my errors not to flatter myself because I know it won't last long. Two or three years and then – (he makes a sound and gesture) - up to the house of the Father.”

Leaving the Vatican: The Pope confessed to the journalists that he would like to leave the Vatican once in a while – quote: “ I would love to be able to leave but you can't because if you go out the people come so you can't and that's a reality. But there inside in the St Martha, I have a normal life of work and rest and chatting.” In the beginning Francis felt imprisoned but – quote – now some of the walls on the inside have come down.”

English Lessons: During the press conference in the air the American journalist Philip Pulella from Reuters started his question like this: “I won't stand up because if I do my colleagues from the televisions will kill me.” He continued: “As an Italian-American I wanted to compliment you on your English. You shouldn't be afraid. And if before you go to America, my homeland, you want to practice I'm available. Whichever accent you want to use: New Yorker… I'm from New York so I'm available.”
