Rosary: In 2011 the American journalist James Foley who was murdered by Islamic terrorists this week in Syria, penned a letter to Jesuit Marquette University after he was arrest in another incident in Libya. He wrote then: “I began to pray the rosary. It was what my mother and grandmother would have prayed. I said 10 Hail Marys between each Our Father. It took a long time, almost an hour to count 100 Hail Marys off on my knuckles. And it helped to keep my mind focused.”

No Emigration: Visiting the Kurdish capital Irbil in Iraq, Maronite Patriarch Cardinal Beshara Rai called Wednesday on the international community to help Iraq’s minorities. He asked the country’s Christians to stick to their roots and not leave the country. Quote: “Those who want to help the Christian people in the region can come help them in their own land by creating jobs and building hospitals and schools, not by calling on them to emigrate.”

God Makes No Mistakes: Jenna Gassew is pregnant but her unborn boy Shane is diagnosed with anencephaly, a fatal birth defect. Jenna and her spouse Dan Haley were both raised Catholic. They know that abortion is no legitimate option. Shane is due on October 12. Doctors don’t think he will survive for long after his birth. But his parents are in good spirits. Every night the hopeful mom and dad say an “Angel of God”. Every Monday they recite the rosary at their local church. During those prayers Shane is especially active. “With prayers and through the grace of God all things are possible!” the couple writes on their “Prayers for Shane” Facebook page.

Heroic Sister: A Civil War app from Davis Studio highlights the story of Sister Mary Lucy Dosh who grew up as an orphan in a Catholic asylum in Kentucky. Later she was adopted by a wealthy family, which hoped to make her their heir. Instead she entered the Sisters of Charity of Nazareth. In April of 1861 the Civil War reached Kentucky. Sister Mary provided spiritual aid to the soldiers in her hospital. Though originally drafted by the Union forces, the sisters provided aid to both sides. In the same year, Sister Mary died form Typhoid fever at the age of 22. She was named the “angel of the fever ward.” Both Union and Confederate mourned her.

May our Lord, the Divine Redeemer, and His blessed Mother have mercy on the soul of James Foley and grant him eternal rest and his great treasure in Heaven…Amen
Another proof of the excellence of the Rosary is the hatred and contempt in which unbelievers regard it.
