Mass in Roman Rite: New Evidence against Vatican Spokesman Matteo Bruni
She revealed the protocol number of the full report: N. 03/2020-ED, thus confirming its authenticity.
The Congregation's report, dated 22 February 2021, consists of three parts: a statistical analysis (pp. 11–170); a summary by continent and an overall evaluation (pp. 171–184); and an appendix containing quotations from the bishops (the Florilegium).
Montagna today also published the introduction to Part Two of the report. It confirms that the majority of bishops indeed warned that restricting the Mass in the Roman rite would cause more harm than good. Therefore, Francis lied when he claimed that the bishops had demanded that he crack down on the Roman rite.
Montagna’s new publication contradicts statements made by Vatican press spokesman Matteo Bruni on 3 July.
During that day's press conference, Monsignor Vittorio Francesco Viola, secretary of the Dicastery for Divine Worship, was asked about the report. He was unable to answer and remained silent.
Bruni then interrupted, saying: "I don't think that's a relevant question." However, he added that Montagna’s sources were "very partial and incomplete" and that "other documentation and confidential reports, including the results of further consultations received by the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith, were subsequently added to the cited consultation".
Today, after publishing her evidence, Montagna concluded that it is now Bruni’s burden to prove that the alleged further documents "either wholly contradict or seriously undermine what is written in the Congregation’s report".
She added that Bruni must demonstrate that his documents prove the Congregation’s report inaccurately represented the responses of bishops worldwide to the questionnaire and that Pope Francis had indeed the support of most responding bishops in issuing 'Traditionis Custodes'.
