France: Catholic Resistance in Alsace

Marc, one of the founders of the Collectif de catholiques en Alsace (Collective of Catholics in Alsace) which was created after Archbishop Ravel's forced resignation, spoke with LeSalonBeige.fr (August 28).

• The anti-Catholic group Jonas Alsace was instrumental in organising the campaign that led to Ravel's dismissal.

• Jonas Alsace lamented a "crisis" which Jonas had orchestrated itself with figures in high positions in the archdiocese.

• Sister Susannah Kelly, an American nun of the Monastic Fraternity of Jerusalem and Ravel's abuse investigator, told media that Ravel had suffered an apostolic visitation because of his zeal in fighting sexual abuse.

• "Many members of the clergy are not faithful to their vows and lead double lives", she said.

• Powerful anti-Catholic priests began to fear that Ravel would sooner or later take action against them.

• In January 2022 Ravel reported sex allegations against his predecessor, Archbishop Grallet, to the police.

• Neither the faithful nor Ravel were informed of the conclusions of the apostolic visit.
