"All my fears have come true," he said, noticing that, at the Synod, the Church’s ecclesiological foundations are “no longer relevant” but a Protestant understanding of the Church is being implemented.
According to Woelki, "this makes it increasingly difficult to detect the elements which constitute the Catholic Church." For him, the Church's hierarchical structure is being undermined.
Woelki criticised that on Saturday morning a liturgy of the word, run mainly by women, was performed in Frankfurt Cathedral “although so many bishops and priests were present.”
