The Symbolism of the Priestly Biretta

The biretta is part of the dress of a Catholic priest. ITreSentieri.it has explained its symbolism.

In the liturgy of the Holy Mass, the symbolic dimension is perfectly taken care of.

Everything must have a meaning: on the altar, in the vestments, in what the priest wears.

The biretta serves to understand how the priest, when he takes it off, must bow humbly before the Lord.

It has four corners to symbolise that the priest must preach the Gospel to the four corners of the earth.

There are three flaps to represent the Holy Trinity, which is above all other dogmas.

The priest may only take the biretta from the central flap, which represents Christ, because only through Him can the Trinity be known.
