Earth Day: From 10 Commandments to 10 Tips

San Bernardino Bishop Alberto Rojas, 58, California, presided on April 22 over an "Earth Day" Eucharist in order "to create more awareness to protect our common home, as Francis has described the earth" (ICByte.org). Young people carried symbols like water, wind, trees, animals, fish, birds, "mother earth", the sun, the moon, the stars and the Holy Spirit who is not actually part of creation. At the end, participants were given a packet of flower seeds and a card with 10 tips on how to reduce their carbon footprint. In the secularised Francis Church, these ten tips are most likely the successors to the Ten Commandments.
