Francis Names More Compromised and Incompetent Figures
On Friday, Francis appointed the president and new judges of the Vatican City State Supreme Court. Its new president is Cardinal Farrell (licentiate in "pastoral theology"), a compromised figure implicated in the Maciel and McCarrick scandals. He replaces Cardinal Mamberti, a lawyer. As judges, Francis has appointed Bologna Cardinal Zuppi (degree in history), Siena Cardinal Lojudice (degree in "fundamental theology"), and Curia Cardinal Gambetti (mechanical engineer). Until now, the president of the court was always the head of the Signatura (presently: Cardinal Mamberti). He also appointed the judges. Only seven years ago, Farrell, was an inconspicuous bishop in Texas. Now, he is: • Prefect of the Dicastery for Laity • Camerlengo • Head of a committee that oversees Vatican's internal financial decisions • Chairman of a committee overseeing Vatican investments • President of the Vatican City Court of Appeal.
All this concentration of power is done in the name of "synodality".
I have a feeling we won't have Francis around much longer to trash. This cartoon is great. But he deserves every bit of it. I think the new Pope will correct things, and Farrell will be quietly retired.
