Roman Mass Banned in Bishop Strickland's Former Cathedral
The celebration of Holy Mass in the Roman Rite at the Cathedral of Tyler, Texas, will be stopped as of the beginning of Advent, 30 November.
The measure was taken by Bishop Joe Vásquez of Austin, the Apostolic Administrator of the diocese. Until November 2023, the Dicoese of Diocese was led by Monsignor Joseph Strickland.
In a November 6 letter, Bishop Vásquez said he had asked the Vatican's Dicastery for the Liturgy "for guidance" and recently received instructions that "the celebration according to the 1962 Missal at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception will come to an end on November 30, 2024."
The Roman Mass continues to be "authorised" only in the parish of St Joseph the Worker, run by the Priestly Fraternity of St Peter.
Vásquez comments cynically: "While this transition may be difficult for some, my hope is that you will open your hearts and move forward on this path with faith and trust."

What the Bishops means: "I consider myself a middle-management bureaucrat. Thus I checked with upper management about what to do. I have not even considered your needs. But please be assured of my pastoral concern for you."
The loss of Grace given to the world by the shutting down of the TLM throughout Tyler, Texas is having spiritual repercussions that cannot be measured - those responsible will be help accountable by the King of Kings and the Lord of Lords. Be assured that those cancelling these Masses will become the canceled ones.
There are currently 5 TLM apostolates in the diocese of Tyler. They are ALL cancelled. The priests were informed that the Roman Rite will be authorized only at the FSSP Parish of St. Joseph the Worker.
