Church Accepts Ancestral Funerals For Bishop Balla

The relatives of Bishop Jean-Maria Benoît Balla of Bafia, Cameroon, will perform an ancestral funeral of the late prelate on the last weekend of August. Archbishop Samuel Kleda of Douala gave a "symbolic approbation" by exhibiting a few steps of a dance, according to cameroon-info.net.

The funeral will take place in Balla's village of origin and will "integrate the tragic dimension of his death". The rites consist in invoking the ancestors in order to unmask those responsible for Balla's death.

The Cameroon bishops still believe that Balla "was brutally murdered".
