Francis received on June 24 the presiding German Bishop Georg Bätzing and encouraged him to “continue on the synodical path,” Bätzing said in a press release.
“Francis is well aware of the situation of the Church in Germany.” Bätzing told Francis that “rumours” according to which the German church wants to go on separate paths are “invented out of thin air.”
Francis replied that the German Church should discuss openly and “come to recommendations for a change in how the Church acts.”
