Cardinal Müller On Francis, “Popes Can Become A Scandal”

The papacy is not a secular office as if the pope were an absolutist king, Cardinal Müller said at a Mai 7 talk in Turin (SilereNonPossum.it).

There is a difference between the apostles and the bishops because the apostles received God's revelation while bishops and the pope “are bound in content to the fulfilment of revelation in Scripture and apostolic Tradition.”

A pope ist not allowed to promote his private friends or arbitrarily depose bishops which he personally dislikes and interfere without just cause in the ordinary pastoral office of the diocesan bishop, Müller explains with evident reference to Francis.

He further points at Francis when he says that "every pope must distinguish precisely between his divine mandate and himself as an individual with all his limitations. He must not impose on other Christians his private views on politics or economics and non-theological sciences.”

Müller knows that “even popes can become a scandal because, as human beings, they believe they want to chart a course that is populist for the public's taste but contradicts the spirit of Christ.”

I think that funny blue thing poking out of the top of his head is rabbit ears?

In the Church's history there have been bad popes. Francis is simply one of them

In the Church's history there have been anti-popes. Francis could be simply one of them.

Is Muller campaigning to be the next pope?
Dr Bobus
No

Yes
Dr Bobus
Actually, no. He is one of the Cardinals who already have their eye on one man for the next conclave.

Müller rehashes truisms, as always.
BTW: There is no such person as "Francis." Therefore, Jesus would call him "Jorge."More

If Francis were the pope, I'd be worried: but since he's not, I'm not. Or if he somehow is the pope, we had better all be worried, because then the Church would have been wrong on the prerogatives of the papacy for centuries.

Stay strong, Cardinal Mueller! Don't back down! We need your spiritual leadership - and the clarity of your thought! Thank you for these words!
