Thanks for so kindly letting me know that this isn't actually "God of Mercy and Compassion." Someone once told me that most of our beautiful Catholic hymns come from popular folk songs and pub tunes.
Well, I would think that is not true at all. The most beautiful Catholic hymns were born in monasteries - no question about that. Furthermore this beauty impregnated the lives of Christian populations which grew up around them. Good folk music is informed by Catholic sacred music. Pagan music is noted for its dissonance and lack of form.
