The Vatican has announced that Pope Francis will visit Chile and Peru in January 2018. The Chilean paper El Telegrafo points out that the country has drastically changed since the visit of John Paul II in 1987. At the time, Chile had 12 Million inhabitants of which over 70% were Catholic. Now, Chile has 18 Million inhabitants and the number of Catholics has dropped below 59%.
