Conclave: The Latin Church that Doesn't Know Latin
This afternoon, after the final prayer of the cardinals in the Pauline Chapel, Cardinal Pietro Parolin began the procession to the Sistine Chapel with a Latin prayer. However, he struggled with the correct Latin pronunciation, particularly with regard to the intonation of the words.
Arriving at the Sistine Chapel, the Cardinals sang the famous hymn Veni Creator Spiritus, which every seminarian in the Catholic Church knows by heart - but not the Cardinals. Almost all of them had to read the text from a booklet.
During the oath of secrecy, many cardinals struggled with the short, simple Latin text. Even Cardinal Sarah made a mistake. Especially the simple word "ádjuvet" caused a lot of problems.

I learned Latin in public school over many years. It used to irritate me in seminary and serving Mass, etc., at how bad the pronunciation was. The clerics disliked that I used classical pronunciation (according to the latest linguistic science) outside the liturgy but pronounced Ecclesiastical Latin without any native accent in Mass.
To leave the universal Latin langage means to fall into Babel. The Muslims still read the quran in Paleoarabic ...
What a surprise! To not know the language used by the Catholic Church for 2,000 years! Wow! Why do muslims read the Quran in Arabic? Good question! Maybe adherence to that language by Mohammedans everywhere is one reason they are still a force. And our discarding Latin is one reason we are not still a force...by accident or by design?
Only difference arabic is not a sacred language, whereas Latin was sanctified by its presence being nailed to the Cross.
