Nigerian Bishop: "Conquest Plan To Eliminate the Christian Population"
His diocese is in Benue State where 95% of the population is Christian. The area has become one of the most dangerous in the country: "The attackers — Muslims from outside the region — destroy churches, kill defenceless residents, force others to flee, burn their lands and then return to occupy them."
Monsignor Anagbe speaks of "a plan of conquest" that also includes non-violent methods, such as renaming villages with Arabic words or closing schools during Ramadan: "Schools are not closed in Saudi Arabia or Afghanistan, so why are they closed in Nigeria?"
During the Yelewata massacre in June, 200 Christians were killed. Bishop Anagbe recalls: "They set fire to a room, burning everyone inside alive, including two children aged three and five months. A mother who had sought refuge on a roof was forced to witness the massacre of her five children, and in her despair she threw herself down."
Attacks happen daily in the villages: "We have testimonies of pregnant women being disembowelled by terrorists who then cast aside their unborn babies."
Monsignor Anagbe also warns that the problem affects Europe too: "We have seen how Islamic radicalism has taken root in Belgium, France and the United Kingdom."
