World Cup winner Olivier Giroud urges France to proclaim Christ publicly | Shalom World News
Olivier Giroud, France’s all-time leading men’s international goalscorer and a member of the 2018 FIFA World Cup winning squad, has urged French Christians to publicly proclaim their faith during the 2026 Marche pour Jésus (“March for Jesus”). In a video posted on Instagram on May 26, 2026, the devout Catholic — who serves as the official patron of this year’s event — encouraged believers not to hide their faith in an increasingly secular culture. “I encourage you to be proud of the Gospel and to celebrate the name of our Savior Jesus Christ in the streets,” Giroud said. “Let us rise and shine for Jesus; may His peace accompany you.” The Marche pour Jésus 2026 will take place on June 6 in sixteen cities across France and the French overseas territories. The annual event brings together Catholics, Evangelicals, Protestants, and other Christian communities for worship, prayer, music, testimonies, and public evangelization. The movement is part of the broader international “March for Jesus” initiative that began in the late 1980s and has spread worldwide. Giroud has long been outspoken about his Christian faith throughout his football career with clubs including Arsenal F.C., Chelsea F.C., and A.C. Milan. He has frequently spoken about prayer, family, and trusting God both on and off the field.
