The sale of a church has to be approved, among others, by the diocesan bishop who at the time (2010-2014) was Blase Cupich who later became the notorious anti-Catholic Chicago Cardinal.
Canon law allows putting up churches for secular use but not for a sacrilegious, immoral, or scandalous purpose while a 2013 Vatican guide explains it's better to demolish a former church than to sell it for use inconsistent with its dignity.
Leo XIII says in Humanum Genus (1884) that the "Masonic sect" wants to destroy the religion and Church instituted by God and reintroduce the customs of the pagans.
