English Diocese Fosters Adoption By Homosexuals
The 'Clifton Children’s Society' (CCS), formerly the 'Catholic Children’s Society' of the Diocese of Clifton, became a secular organisation in 2008. New regulations required adoption agencies to place children with homosexuals.
While many Catholic agencies closed or cut ties, the Diocese of Clifton continued to support CCS financially and institutionally.
The charity remains listed in the diocesan directory and is scheduled for an optional collection on 11 January 2026. It also receives funding through parish collections and diocesan schools.
CCS openly promotes homosexuals adoption, stating that over half of its children were given to homosexuals - more than double the national average.
Former Bishop Declan Lang of Clifton continued for years as the honorary president of CCS. Diocesan backing has continued under his successor, Bishop Bosco MacDonald.
In 2014, Bishop Lang stated that, to his knowledge, Clifton Children’s Society did “not facilitate adoptions of children to homosexual couples.” However, at the same time, the CCS website was publicly promoting adoption by same-sex couples, featuring their testimonials and stating that the organisation actively welcomed and supported same-sex applicants.
The Catholic Church in England and Wales withdrew from adoption services in 2007, following the government's refusal to grant Catholic agencies an exemption from legislation requiring them to place children with homosex couples.
