Being from Crisis Mag, I'm not as surprised. It's almost like a tale someone told of their own life but never finished it nor completed the thought. xD Really odd. I do understand the painful loneliness and sparseness of churches anymore. To so many, the faith has been lost. That is truly horrifying and particularly poignant.

It would be poignant if it were as you described; i.e. the writer saddened by the decline in church attendance. However what rankled me about the smooth style with which it was delivered, was that it picks apart the retired and elderly church goers who (notwithstanding the various limitations) continue to practice The Faith steadily but quietly while practicing the spiritual and corporal works of mercy. Largely he faults their lack of rigor. No judge of the heroics is he.
