Oops! The Monsignor Has Resurrected

Francis made Father Donatien Nshole, the secretary general of the National Episcopal Conference of Congo (Cenco), a Chaplain of His Holiness.

In this capacity, Nshole now bears the title of Monsignor. The General Secretariat of Cenco offered its warm congratulations “to the lucky recipient,” Adiac-Congo.com (December 15) writes.

A Chaplain of His Holiness has certain privileges and wears special vestments. It is the lowest of the three ranks of monsignor. In January 2014, Francis “abolished” the conferral of this title on diocesan priests under the age of 65.

Nshole is a diocesan priest. He is 58 years old. This is just another example of how none of Francis' decisions should be taken too seriously.
