PiusX Defeats State of California

Kern County judge Gregory Pulskamp, California, signed a May 27 permanent injunction barring the state of California from ever imposing discriminatory restriction on houses of worship under the pretext of Covid-19.

Pulskamp, 51, is a Muslim. He received a bachelor's degree from [Catholic] Boston College and a J.D. from the [Catholic] University of San Diego School of Law.

In September 2020, PiusX Father Trevor Burfitt sued California Governor Newsom for his ban on indoor worship calling it a violation of the constitutionally protected freedom of religion. Lead attorney was Christopher Ferrara.

A month later, Burfitt's church Our Lady of the Angels received in Arcadia two $500 citations by Los Angeles County health inspectors after parishioners were observed exiting the back of the church.

After the court decision, Father Burfitt commented, “The tyrant was shown to have overstepped his power.” On June 1, the Thomas More Society won a similar case for the South Bay United Pentecostal Church in Chula Vista, California.
