Geneva: Priests Handed Over to State Unemployment Fund

The priests of the Swiss Canton of Geneva were informed that the cancellation of Masses and meetings due to the coronavirus entails for them a decrease in activity of 25%.

Therefore, Dominique Pittet, the Geneva Catholic Church secretary general, a de facto lay bishop, informed the priests that in order to guarantee their full salary, they will be handed over to the State unemployment fund.
Geneva was one of the first areas worldwide to announce the cancellation of Holy Week.
