"Bergoglio Avoids the Dalai Lama Like the Plague"
"In the almost 12 years of his pontificate, Bergoglio has carefully avoided inviting, receiving or meeting the Buddhist leader."
Claudio Cardelli of the Italy-Tibet Association said that they have "tried dozens of times to break through to the Vatican and arrange a meeting between the two leaders, but have always found an insurmountable wall in front of us".
He believes that "the reason is Cardinal Pietro Parolin", who is allegedly responsible for the secret agreement signed with China, although Parolin does nothing without being ordered by Francis to do so.
Francis had many contacts with different representatives of Buddhist traditions, for example Thai, Japanese or Chinese.
In December 2024, Francis received the Tibetan monk Kyabie Kundeling Rinpoche. He met Francis briefly and gave him a book on the Dalai Lama and his teachings. The meeting "did not go unnoticed in Beijing."
