Most Rev. David Zubik’s letter dated August 20, 2021 is a frightening sign of how TC may be implemented in places where the bishop is not friendly to the TLM.
1. The bishop of Pittsburgh declares that there will be only one “full-service” TLM parish in the entire city, namely, the parish run by the Institute of Christ the King.
2. At two other parishes, Masses will be allowed occasionally, but Christmas, Easter, and Pentecost are explicitly excluded.
3. The other sacraments (Baptism, Confirmation, Confession, Marriage, Extreme Unction) will be permitted only for registered parishioners of the Institute’s apostolate.
4. Worst of all, priests are forbidden to celebrate the TLM privately. Only priests who are deemed necessary to minister to “groups" will receive permission.
This is a notorious example of a situation in which priests would be entirely within their rights before God and Holy Mother Church to disobey the letter of the law. Those who already say the TLM, perform baptisms, hear confessions, or anoint the sick in the old rite, etc., should continue to do so.

Pittsburgh has decided they don’t want any more vocations. Sad for them.

We will, most likely, see a lot more of this over the coming weeks and months as bishops formalize their responses to TC. The only thing Trads have to offer bishops, that they value, is our sons who can become priests. I could never recommend a diocesan vocation to any young man, at this point. Rome will probably destroy the Trad communities who have maintained communion. Where will this leave us?
