This is Easter Mass in 1940. Does anyone, serious about their faith, genuinely think Vatican II and the Novus Ordo and John Paul II’s communion in the hand standing were improvements on Catholic tradition?

In an article by Joseph Shaw, he states that in 878 Thomas Aquinas said only the consecrated hands of a priest should touch the Eucharist. How Ancient Is Communion in the Hand?

Thanks! Maybe @chris griffin will chime in! Happy Easter!

@giveusthisday...thanks for the info but I have heard it all before because I did not come to my opinion lightly but with diligent study.
Did you know that St. Aquinas said that early gestation embryos inside the mother were vegetables and animals before becoming human later in the pregnancy.
Did you know that Aquines said that if a person's conscience tells him to commit murder then he must commit that murder.!
So much for Aquinas.

Communion in the hand is beautiful and reverent. Communion in the hand was the standard of the Catholic Church for the first 800 years because Jesus said "Take and Eat", not "open your mouth and stick out your tongue"

Paolo F

It never happened as in our days; it is beyond comparison. The distribution of Holy Communion happened in a much more respectful way than nowadays.

Beatus Vir

How do you know, were you there? In the Novus Ordo Mass almost all beauty and reverence has gone out the windows that Vatican II opened to let the world in. "Communion in the hand" is one of the major reasons for the loss of faith and reverence for the True Presence of our Lord Jesus Christ in the Sacred Host, that and lay people distributing Holy Communion. Laudetur Iesus Christus!

Ivan Tomas

Nooooooooooooo...!!!!! 😤

Jeffrey Ade

Apparently many making comments on this post do!

@
Jeffrey Ade... I defeated you on the issue of abortion and I can defeat you on this subject, because you have no case.

Jeffrey Ade

@chris griffin As you wish my friend! God bless you and happy Easter!

chris griffin

@Jeffrey Ade... thanks and blessed wishes to you.

JPII himself preferred communion on the tongue.

True! Paul VI was a weak pope who allowed such mockering of our Lord, now, JPII did NOT sign off on this, it was Paul, BUT JPII DID allow it to continue, so did Benedict and both false prophets after them... will that throw them to hell? Only God knows, I doubt it, as it was satan who tempted the bishops and all of them allow such to happen.

@yuca2111 JP II refused to permit Communion in the hand in Poland during his Pontificate despite the Polish bishops requesting more than once. Shortly after his death and the election of Ratzinger, they requested it again. Within a year (almost to the day of Wojtyla's death), Ratzinger as Benedict gave the permission.

Beatus Vir

Pope Benedict XVI only gave Holy Communion on the tongue while the communicant knelt.

How do you know, were you there? Your thinking and your history are very faulty. Communion in the hand was invented by Jesus while Communion on the tongue was invented by some guy somewhere.

Simon North

@Beatus Vir I stand corrected. It was April 8th, 2005, at the funeral Mass of JP II. He gave Communion to the Swiss Protestant founder of the Taize community, Brother Roger Shutz. Ratzinger was elected to the papacy 11 days later. Roger had received communio in sacris several times from JP II while Ratzinger was head of the Congregation of the Doctrine of the Faith.

Weren’t they the popes? If Im the one with such power I would NOT allow Eucharist in the hand in the whole entire Church.

chris griffin

@yuca2111... I am very dishearten that none of the other posters mention the words of God...TAKE AND EAT. I guess y'all don't care.

Simon North

@chris griffin I hate to disagree with you because I admire and agree with your complete commitment to pro-life. A proper response to your remark would take much longer than a combox space. But, a reminder: Our Lord was addressing his first priests - not the disciples in general. As time and depth of understanding of the sacrament unfurled, the Word made Flesh being received on the human instrument by which words are formed became the norm - East and West.

yuca2111

Communion in the hand was permitted by Paul VI not JPII.

Ursula Wegmann

Die Handkommunion wurde von 3 Bischöfen P. P. VI. durch eine Lüge und nur für einen bestimmten Kreis in einer besonderen Situation abgerungen.

Percy Franklin

Either one...they have stood before Almighty God to answer for it!
