In June, a few weeks before his Mongolia visit (August 31-September 4), Francis asked the Mongolian Nuncio, Archbishop Alfred Xuereb, 64, to leave his insignificant post without a new assignment.
Xuereb was Benedict XVI's second secretary. Francis sent him to the pampa as Nuncio in 2018.
After Archbishops Clemens and Gänswein, Xuereb is the third secretary of Benedict XVI to become the object of Francis’ vengeance.
The discreet and amiable Maltese has done nothing to incur Francis’ wrath. Benoit-Et-Moi.fr (July 28) believes that it must be his service and devotion to Benedict that has earned Francis’ revenge.
However, Xuereb denied this explanation in a press statement, but gave no explanation for his dismissal.
