Medjugorie: Bishop Publishes Ambiguous Note about Francis' Ambiguous Approval

Monsignor Petar Palić, Bishop of Mostar-Duvno, where the shrine of false apparitions of Medjugorje is located, issued his own statement on Francis’ "approval" (Biskupija-mostar.ba, September 19).

Monsignor Palić has a similar negative view of Medjugorje as his predecessors. But he "accepts with filial obedience" Francis' claims in a note called 'Queen of Peace - on the spiritual experience related to Medjugorje'.

However, he affirms that this decision "does not imply approval of the supernatural character of the phenomenon in question".

And: "The priests of this diocese, accepting and respecting the decision of the Church, are free to agree or disagree with this spiritual proposal".

I recall reading Pope Benedict XVI's reported advice on the events in which he said 'Take what's good in them but leave the final decision to the Church' That advice is consistent with the latest affirmation from Bishop Palic.

Claudius Cartapus

Pope Urban VIII (1623-1644)
"In cases which concern private revelations, it is better to believe than not to believe, for, if you believe, and it is proven true, you will be happy that you have believed, because our Holy Mother asked it. If you believe, and it should be proven false, you will receive all blessings as if it had been true, because you believed it to be true." 🙏

So a diabolical (for example) apparition should be believed? No discernment?

SHJ-IHM

Yeah that's what I thought - that it was referring to approved apparitions. But it doesn't read that way as presented. It's as unclear as the new Medjugorge "approval".

May the Holy Ghost protect and guard the Church from foul, false spirits of delusion and deception. Regardless as to the rank or office of those who are their mouthpieces, or who sanctions and approves their diabolical mutterings.

" false apparition " ???

philosopher

Yep!

Anthony November

He approved it because some people had a “religious experience.” For the modernist that is all that matters. It doesn’t matter if there are dogmatic red flags or blatant falsehoods. Tucho lives up to his role as prefect for the dicastery for the destruction of the Faith.

@Anthony November "some people"? There have been thousands and thousands of people who converted, found their vocation, returned to the sacraments, had an experience of the presence of Mary, had supernatural signs, etc. All due to a "false apparition"? Come on.

P. O'B

No, when Francis speaks, disobedience is a better choice.

Sean Johnson

“Ambiguity is the language of the modernist.”
-Pope St. Pius X

Least logical “apparition of Mary” out there. People just “hang out” with the queen of heaven year in and year out, unlike all other apparitions…and nothing important comes of it. Seems like something these people would agree was real.

petrus100452

@Tina H Aren't new religious communities, many works of charity, many vocations, many conversions, many prayer groups all over the world, "nothing that comes of it?" I think in this case the Vatican has a better judgment of the many good fruits that come from Medjugorje than you have.

Tina H

The Vatican has no judgement right now. That statement is laughable.

petrus100452

@Tina H The Vatican does has a judgment: Nihil obstat. That is not a judgment on the apparitions as such, but a judgment on the fruits it produces. And what is “laughable” about the many good things Medjugorje produces? (P.S.: I believe in the authenticity of the apparitions, but the Vatican does not and will not pass judgment on that according to the new guidelines. Thank God!)

Denis Efimov

Well, that is, the bishop caved in to the boss and said that the flock can accept false revelations, because he accepts with filial obedience what two heretics from the Vatican (Tucho and Francis) told him?

SHJ-IHM

This just in...Bishop accepts job security offer.

philosopher

So, he accepts with "filial obedience" the Pope's religious relativism.

The decision sums up this pontificate: it’s an apparition of Mary, but it’s not an apparition of Mary. Pray. Trust in Christ. And keep the faith.
