Second Attempt: Cardinal Pizzaballa Takes Possession of His Church

Cardinal Pierbattista Pizzaballa, who postponed his trip to Rome two weeks ago in the midst of the ongoing war on Gaza, took possession of Sant'Onofrio's, his titular church in Rome, on 1 May.

This church is home to the Knights of the Holy Sepulchre. It was packed. In his homily, the Cardinal said that people could not wait for the US to resolve the war in Gaza:

"These are difficult moments, but they are also moments of hope, because perhaps something is moving in the current negotiations, hopefully. We must never give up. In any case, the situation remains very dramatic, serious and difficult. In addition to the military problems, which exist and are serious, there is the humanitarian problem in Gaza."

Is Pizzaballa really celebrating as orientem? And in a Roman chasuble, too.

Wow. That is the high altar at Sant’Onofrio, and pictures I have found show that they certainly do have a “Cranmer table,” which is outside of the Communion rail. I wonder whose idea it was to celebrate ad orientem. I still don’t believe that there is any future for a “reverent Novus ordo,” but this is interesting.
