Hate Crime Justified: John Paul II Statue Vandalized
A statue of John Paul II (+2005) outside Holy Rosary Parish Church has been vandalised in Edmonton, Canada.
The base of the statue was smeared with dozens of red hand and foot stamps. The incident occurred Saturday night at 11:10 p.m. A surveillance video shows a female perpetrator.
Andrzej Makarewicz of the Alberta chapter of the Polish Canadian Council and member of that affected parish told Ici.Radio-Canada.ca (June 27) that he sees the incident as an attack on the Polish community, “Someone wanted to hurt our community, they stabbed us in the heart."
Since Poles are are not Jews or Moslems, the investigation is not conducted by Hate Crimes and Violent Extremism Investigation Division.
The same day, two Catholic churches were burned down in southern British Columbia. Two other Catholic churches burned in the Okanagan earlier last week.
With reference to “local authorities,” Ici.Radio-Canada.ca justified these crimes referring to the abuse witch hunt as “a protest” against the alleged role of the Church in the management of residential schools in Canada.
